Mitarashi dango

Mitarashi Dango, Japanese sweets

Sometimes, I get to want to eat dango.
I bought Mitarashi dango a few days ago, so I would like to introduce it.

What is Mitarashi dango?

Dango is a small dumpling made from rice flour.
Its soft and chewy texture is so nice.
Some of them are served directly on the plate, but most of them are stuck on bamboo skewers.

Dango is a traditional Japanese sweet, and there are many types.
Mitarashi dango is one of them, and it is covered with a sweet soy glaze called mitarashi-an.
The sweet soy glaze is cooked over medium heat while mixing soy sauce, sugar, potato starch, and water.
Its taste is a staple among dango.
So, speaking of mitarashi dango, many of Japanese people will imagine the same taste.

Dango is the most delicious when eaten with green tea.

History

Mitarashi dango is said to be derived from Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto.
Historically, the festivals are taken place there, which is called Mitarashi Festival.
The dumplings made by the parishioners at the festival at that time got to be Mitarashi dango.

Where is it sold?

Mitarashi Dango, Japanese sweets

It is originally sold at Japanese sweets specialty stores, but there is not so much.
Therefore, I bought it at a local supermarket.

Furthermore, it has also been sold at convenience stores like Seven-Eleven, Lawson or Family mart, in recent years.

Dango is yummy!
